JUMP ROPE

Last Friday we had open classrooms and many families came in to work with their children and have a look around the school.  This was followed by Jump Rope for Heart – the children have been learning and practicing skipping techniques and raising money for the Heart Foundation.
Jump Rope was followed by family picnics:

SOCIAL STUDIES QUIZ
Congratulations to our social studies teams who competed in Timaru last week.  The year 5-6 team got 75 points out of 100 and the year 7 -8 team got 86 points, coming 10th?

AN OUTING FOR OUR YEAR 5-8s
In term 1 we learnt about “grit” and resilience.  This has been a theme that we have returned to over the year.  By the time this newsletter is out our year 5-8 students will have had a surprise trip to the Geraldine movie theatre to watch the Ritchie McCaw movie, “Chasing Great.”  We thank our year 5-8 students for their leadership within our school and we want to take every opportunity to stimulate them and provide experiences which will help them to integrate their learning.

Thank you to the children, staff and families of St Joseph's who have made it an amazing 18 months for me here in Pleasant Point.  I take many happy memories with me and it has been a privilege to be part of your school for this time.

End of Term Assembly
Our end of term assembly, and farewell afternoon tea for Lorraine will be held this Friday - 23 September 2016, at 2pm in the Kerry Hall (Note earlier time).  Assembly will be followed by afternoon tea.  Please could parents bring a small plate to share.

Sausage Sizzle
Tomorrow - Friday 23 September will be our last sausage sizzle for this year.  Our wonderful helpers for this week are Liezel van den Bergh and Jenny Priddle.  Please be at school by 11.30am as lunch is at 12 noon.

Subway
Next term we would like to resume having Subway orders on Fridays.  The Howes family have kindly offered to take these orders into Washdyke for us on a Friday morning once per fortnight.  However, if we are able to get other parents to help with taking the orders to Subway, then we can do orders every Friday.  The orders will be collected at the office on a Friday morning, and be ready to be taken to Subway in Washdyke at approximately 9.15am.  Subway deliver the completed orders to us as long as we have over 25 orders.  If you are able to help with this (even only occasionally) please let Claire know, and we can organise a roster.

Sunhats
Please remember that sunhats will be required next term, as it is a summer term. If your child does not already have a sunhat these can be purchased from The Warehouse - Schooltex Royal Blue wide brim.

School Photos
Unfortunately the recent school photo class groups did not turn out as well as we wanted due to the inside background.  So we have organised for Megan Inwood our photographer to come and redo the class photos outside on Thursday 13 October (first Thursday of Term 4).  Your individual photos will be available once these class ones have been completed.

Welcome to Natalie Rooney our local Olympic silver medallist.  The children were very excited to meet Natalie today and prepared congratulations cards and questions to discuss with Natalie.  Natalie told the children that her parents have always been her biggest supporters, and are her role models in life.  Natalie believes in keeping fit - "A healthy body helps to keep a healthy mind."

1. There are 7 Sacraments
2. Each Sacrament has its own symbols and rituals
3. Sacraments are a sign of God's grace in the world and in us
4. Sacraments relate to your life journey (te wa)
